We need all the rights listed in our Bill Of Rights. People see hunting as meat on the table. Limits to meat on the table, limits votes and create serious motivation. This argument is about a city's right to limit firearms within the city. That is working its way up to the Supreme Court. The issues are far more complex than I attempt to make simple here. There are some cities with crime so bad, carrying a concealed firearm should be the law. Another mandate. Some fear she would actively work to limit firearms rights. She said she would not, in a round about way. I believed her. At one point, pointing to her much bantered, 80% rulings against employment rights. For me, that proves she lacks empathy.
keeping statistics on rulings, one way or the other, is how some cases are proved, more likely or not. her repeating this, and the light manner, tore at my empathetic side. Empathy has two meanings (I used Webster's Dictionary, 1991, Lexicon Publications): The power to enter into emotional harmony with a work of art and so derive aesthetic satisfaction. Once I would laugh when someone pointed out that law is more art. That stopped when I applied for a patent. Understanding the aesthetic satisfaction is exactly Judge Sotomayor's routine. She and her fellow judges may take issue (debate counts), however, cases would move quicker, results recognized as fair, If aesthetic satisfaction were a daily goal. I understand the frustration Americans can feel when all those justices decide so few cases each year. "They fight to get them right," I consoled. She explained, would be different still, as a justice. Each role needs an aesthetic satisfaction.
The other definition is The power to enter the feeling or spirit of others. This is the one that seems to be causing the concern. The Judge put this to rest, in explaining her often refereed to speeches. her background of experiences were used to encourage others to test their being and jump the hurdles, side step the broken glass, and dedicate themselves to the law. Sure, a judge may jump to conclusions, many often do. Once on the bench a while, they recognize this. She even worked one into her speech. This demonstrates her dedication to justice, fairness, even though she uses that 80% example.
Should President Obama carry out his threat to appoint empathetic judges, our nation will be better place for all of US.

It is very hard to be PC
Some point to Pres 43 ripping off Pres 41. Pres 43 claims he does not mind ripping off good ideas. It does seem that the more one reads our Constitution, the more one gets the impression -empathy- is a necessity.
