7/21/09 (People Port) Extra punishment for federal hate crime. The Senate is debating an amendment to our Defense Bill (Just like paying your dinner bil). The act will not cover the elderly, children among others.
Most states have their own version of hate crimes. This federal bill will kick in, When the suspects get off the state's charges. Our Constitution never intended the federal government to prosecute crime. Their are limited exceptions that have been perverted in the last decades. The absolute favortite, Our War On Srugs.
Only in the last six months did we try to stop the flow of guns and money out of our country. Some call this a War On Thought. Senator Sessions points out the construct of double jeopardy will not attach because there are different sovereigns. The Senator was on the floor asking for help in defeating this amendment.
The act's framework will allow a prosecutor to prosecute -thought- not a perswon's acts, as crimes. The predicate in Interstate Commerce. To some future prosecutor, your choice of bible, would land you in the slammer.
The United States Commission On Civil Rights members do not like the law because it deliberately intrudes on the Constitution's Bill Of Rights. It expalnds criminal law federalization.
The Southern Poverty Law Center likes it. Will make in easier to collect massive judgments against poor hate groups.
Most would not like their Mom policing their thoughts. So why would we want the federal government policing our thoughts?
