More Disasters More Refugees -Not The United States Fault

by J John Swanko

10/02/2012 (People Port) Jasper, FL  -Many stateless people (refugees) are in the news.  So far this year 700,000.  Looks to top last years, 800,000.  That is an estimate, and does not include Palestinians.  The United Nations (UN) has a whole different agency for Palestinians.  United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) was formed a long time ago and the world stills talks about a homeland for them.

Israel current Prime Minister now wants his Jewish refugees compensated, just like the Palestinian refugees would be compensated.  There was once a promise of 400,000 new homes built in the new country of Palestine,  long before Oslo.  How all of this would affect the Near-Mid-East is a guess today.

Far to many commentators are blaming the United States and Europe for the stalemate.  They point out, each election cycle brings new problems because the more problems -the more aid they receive.  There was a quick web movement that thought cutting off all aid to Egypt, Israel, Palestinian Authority, Pakistan, Afghanistan,.. until Israel and the Palestinians forge a real peace with at least two states.  Apparently Western leaders are not aware how bad they are being gamed by both sides.  The United States and her people, and the world have dumped far less money into Africa.  Look at the results:

Today, sub-Saharan Africa is one of the fastest growing regions in the world. In 2011, Africa was home to seven of the world’s 10 fastest growing economies. Foreign direct investment in the continent approaches $80 billion a year, while trade has tripled over the last decade. And since 1989, 20 new democracies have taken root across the region.  Yet, three out of four people live on two dollars a day.

There are huge numbers of refugees.  Flooding alone has hurt the West African Nations of Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Ghana.  Niger, is reporting 400,000.  A cholera epidemic which has already claimed the lives of several dozen people.  Kenya's Tana River war threaten to destabilize the region.

These people need lots of help.  The US has been there a while.  Stopping AIDS, malaria...  Our NGOs have stopped measles,..  For far less than what we spend in the Mid-East.  While most Americans would never think of cutting our aid to the region, many do not understand we -for the most part- are paying for there military.   Of course, we do that to...   Our Secretary Clinton just announced we are giving an additional $30 million to help the Syrian refugees...
