States Cutting Our Lifelines

In Florida, our libraries are running scared because the Florida is proposing an end to Literacy Programs. Counties would have to fund these efforts. Jobs are way more important than new books, magazines, satellite branches.

Hospitals, police, fire, and EMS services are all very important. Schools, adult literacy are only important if we want society to prosper. It is nice to live in a country where all are offered a leg up. Some must learn the hard way, unable to learn from books, friends and family experiences. GEDs are important. States considering the elimination of aid to local libraries should see that option as a last resort, not a bargaining chip.
