People Port Editorial: Senator DeMint Was Right, About Unions

The right to join a union is fundamental, some argue guaranteed within our Constitution. Senator DeMint, R-SC, arguing for the right, on the Senate Floor. He is not shy. He is a very independent Republican, no moderate. His blasting unemployment in his home state speaks volumes. Taking unpopular positions, standing alone, is in a Senator's job description.

The Senator's point is well taken. In my life, as a COPE delegate, I have heard that position many times. The most vocal, hard core Republicans. The problem then and now -letting anyone, not covered by contract -join- receive the benefits of representation, insurance and the like, will bankrupt unions (see notes). Unions must look at what can be done, before there are no unions left to speak. The need to feel professional at one's work is real. That does take money. Every company is only as good as the sum of its parts, Land Labor, and Capital.

Big Labor needs to visit the idea.

Notes:

Senator DeMint is painted as a radical right winger, That notion is incorrect. His opinions are brutal. He later backed away from the Unions for all during that debate.

Once offered a small town's reps at a convention, I'll make the copies, of the papers their -scribes- were copying by hand. They quickly pointed out, That is why they were here, to make copies. That whole town wanted their, state certified, Fire Fighters -professional.
