Our Carbon Problem May Be Solved, Now, Let's Move Some Icebergs

by J John Swanko

Looks like the globe's carbon problem is well on its way to being solved. The paint-the-roads concept is estimated to reduce the globe's heat equal to removing all the cars. Then there is pumping sulfur dioxide. Long hoses above the poles that may tangle Santa's reindeer, Some engineering required. Most commentators claim Copenhagen was a waste, I disagree.

There is a real commitment to slowing down carbon. By the time the US completes cleaning up our coal plants, the technology should be cheap enough for other countries to adopt it. We have China, and India, on our side, Very good for all. Many commentators are pointing out the problems with dust storms. We solved that one, a very long time ago. That leaves the immediate problem of water.

Peru, Ethiopia are being pressed right now. The Stans were teetering and we have two icebergs menacing shipping. They broke off from Antarctica. Seems a perfect fit with the UN's Security Council. There are all kinds of plans for taking icebergs for water. I am sure our navy could deal with this problem, however, we stopped cloud seeding because of the international outcry. They are huge. They will affect weather. Other nations may want the experience with huge engineering problems. Solving them spurs innovation.

Innovation is a major part of the Obama Administration's agenda. Congress has always been pro-innovation. The pending carbon legislation may contain money for innovation centers. The concept is wire our universities with inventors and entrepreneurs. A good idea if Congress can fix the problems with universities.

As those testifying before Congress pointed out, Their labs are for basic research because the cannot afford the risk... Loss of grants and the like. I tried working with all types of innovation centers in the past -not for me. I recommend to my nieces and nephews becoming professional athletes. Golf is nice, so is tennis. Universities are far better at dealing with athletes. NIH's grant system that awards those that go for the full court shot is a start.

I know Congress can and will address these issues. Making them part of the carbon legislation is a great start.

Notes:

I inserted the innovation centers here to put aside those claiming I am only pro-carbon because I want one of those innovation center jobs. There is no truth in that. To those suggesting I sub at a university, No. I am still trying to get People Port back up. When an opportunity comes along, I do look at it however I need the cash flow now. As an example, I have written about and solicited for ads. All the time pointing out why. Think the current Florida Orange Juice Campaign.
