11/25/09 Advocacy statistics would be a good course for our scientists under the microscope. Their published graphics contradict them. One, as much as one can expect, does a good job matching up with known climate history.
During our fight for independence, we were in a mini-ice-age. One graph does display that event and the recent cooling. Could not find their data. Wanted to compare the downward trend in carbon. That trend began a few years back. Naturally I wanted to attempt to correlate that with the trend line (the green one) that appears to mimic recorded events.
Here in the States we rely heavily on that mini-ice-age, a convenient hurricane, and we believe, God's help, that established our American Experiment. People Port has fought hard to keep the details of climate change on the up and up. Finding advocacy statistics to be a path that will sink whatever point of view is advanced.
In the bug business, I was often stunned by what bugs could do. I would comment, "The bugs eat the books, they do not read them." I was dealing with evolution at light speed. It was handy that I was involved with politics. There we pushed the data, some. The more I learned about little -e- the less inclined to push very far. Humbled many times. The word guesstimate saved me, on at least one occasion.
Now, our nation is growing anti-carbon. The recent decline in carbon fits our view of Americana. Here we expect our institutions's, businesses's research and development to lower our costs, build a better tomorrow. We like our small utilities kicking the big companies in research and development. It all fits. These scientists went way too far.
Background:
The world's premiere climate research center computers were hacked. Scientists's emails that look like they counter the rising temperatures were posted on the web. The school put out its statement Climatic Research Unit update. After reading it and multiple media accounts, I wrote this editorial.
Updated 12/07/09 and note: The Green line referred to above is in the bottom graph.
